divine ascension
about
divine ascension is an online, open world RPG. the gameworld is
infinite, and procedurally generated.
the goal of the project is to create an online RPG in which
every element of the world that could be turned over to player control
is.
basically, every player is able to
change the enviroment by collecting resources, bulding objects, founding towns, posting jobs (quests) for other players, creating guilds, starting shops, and the like.
gameplay
combat is very similar to other topdown RPGs, such as zelda. it's real time, and includes a variety of
weapon types (close, ranged, magic).
for each weapon, a player can perform up to
3 separate attacks. for instance, if one had a sword equipped, they would be able to "stab", "slash", and "block".
death in
divine ascension is permanent, so be careful out there!
resources and building
a player can
collect resources with several different
tools. they can then use the resources to craft items, or to build
world objects,
such as roads, signs, tents, houses, campfires, fences, statues, and gates.
towns and NPCs
towns are
automatically generated when a cluster of
player owned houses grows to 5 or more. the player with the most owned property in the cluster is selected to act as the
town mayor, and NPCs will slowy begin to move in and build their own houses and shops.
the mayor can manage town funds, choose to build town structures (such as a town hall, defensive walls, etc), or hire town staff, such as guards. the mayor can also choose to
tax the town citizens for living in the town, and all money earned this way will go towards the
town funds.
towns are automatic
safe-zones from mobs, but
not from pvp. it is up to the town guards to prevent violence, and this capability depends on how much the mayor is willing to pay them.
shops and services
after building a generic building, a player can turn it into a
shop. they can either stock and staff it themselves,
hire an NPC to staff it for them, or hire additional NPCs to keep it stocked with
goods.
players can sell any in-game item through their shops, and change any price for said items. NPCs will also
automatically found shops in towns, with their prices automatically
adjusting to the market.
levels and experience
players gain
experience points by killing monsters, killing other players, completing quests, and using skills. the
leve cap is 5. after one progresses past the 5th level, they
ascend to divinity, and are granted a
god title and
god powers.
each god title is comprised of an
aspect and a class, and one's god powers are based on those. if you die as a god, you are
returned to level 5 and lose your god powers. you do not, however, die permanently like a normal player would.
